Elddis Transport is aiming high by going low with its latest Mercedes truck purchase.

The Mercedes Atego 1833LLnR Lo-line drawbar rig was chosen as it gives the maximum possible load space for work on one of the company's biggest contracts.

The combination of ultra-low chassis height and 16-foot high curtainside bodywork on both rigid and trailer means the combination is able to swallow huge volumes of cargo.

The Atego, supplied by Bell Truck Sales, Longbenton, is working on a dedicated contract for SCA Hygiene Products UK, and is double shifted, working continuously for six days every week.

During the night it hauls giant reels of toilet tissue paper from the harbour at Blyth, Northumberland, to SCA's depot at Skelmersdale, then each day it makes the return journey to the north-east with palletised loads of finished product, which it delivers into the RDCs of SCA customers.

The Atego 1833LLnR is one of the latest additions to the Mercedes-Benz model line-up, and has provided the ideal solution for this job. Previously, the same role was carried out by a Mercedes Actros lo-line tractor unit, with a purpose-built high-cube trailer, but the new drawbar rig is proving even more effective.
